Drivers should prepare for short-term traffic shifts beginning the week of March 23 along Fairfax County Parkway and Route 123 as work continues on the Fairfax County Parkway south widening project.

The changes will affect northbound Fairfax County Parkway between Route 123, also known as Ox Road, and Clara Barton Drive. Traffic will also shift on northbound and southbound Route 123 between Chapel Road and Clara Barton Drive.

Fairfax County officials are also being called to Capitol Hill following the fatal stabbing of Stephanie Minter at a Hybla Valley bus stop on Feb. 23. The county’s prosecutor and sheriff are expected to testify at a congressional subcommittee hearing next month examining why Jalloh was free before the killing.

Virginia lawmakers, meanwhile, are searching for ways to address federal health care funding shortfalls. A reconciliation bill Congress passed last summer and the expiration of Affordable Care Act subsidies earlier this year have prompted state-level efforts to close the gap. Virginia agencies are also changing workflows to comply with new federal requirements for health care and social services.

In Vienna, police responded around 8:35 p.m. March 14 after people reported being struck by eggs thrown from a passing vehicle. The victims said the vehicle returned and made a second pass through the area.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue will end text updates about the Centreville natural gas explosion on Wednesday, March 25. More than 725 community members had been receiving messages about the Feb. 15 blast, which destroyed a house. The county’s incident webpage will remain available.

The purple glass-recycling bin at the Mason Government Center is being removed because temporary buildings and construction vehicles are occupying much of the parking lot during the Mason Police Station renovation and expansion. County public works officials are still looking for another location.

Mason District police officers distributed dozens of donated pajamas, slippers and socks to families at Strawbridge Square Apartments in Lincolnia on March 21. Community members had contributed the items during the previous several months.

Lake Fairfax Park is hiring lakefront employees for its summer season, which runs from mid-June through mid-August. Drop-in interviews will be held at the park’s main office March 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rain and a possible thunderstorm are forecast Monday, with a high near 60 degrees and an 80% chance of precipitation. Northwest winds could reach 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Skies are expected to become mostly clear overnight as temperatures fall to around 33 degrees.
