The Hershey Super Sweet Adventure has postponed its planned March 6 opening at Tysons Corner Center because of unexpected permitting delays.
The company said it is contacting ticket holders and expects to announce a new opening date in the coming days. It also apologized for the inconvenience.
Tickets for the family-friendly pop-up had gone on sale starting at $19.99. The attraction will occupy a 17,751-square-foot space on the mall’s first floor near Macy’s, where nearly $500,000 in renovations have been underway since November, according to Fairfax County permitting records.
The Tysons location will mark the immersive experience’s first East Coast appearance following a run in Chicago. Hands-on challenges draw inspiration from brands including Reese’s, Hershey’s Kisses, Twizzlers and Jolly Ranchers.
At the Reese’s Combination Station, participants use a cannon to launch imitation peanut butter balls into cups of different sizes.
The Tysons edition will also introduce a new finale where visitors can customize a chocolate bar wrapper with a selfie and other personalized options.
A retail shop will offer limited-edition merchandise and remain open to all mall shoppers, including those without tickets to the larger experience.
