After 38 years in the Vienna area, Pie Gourmet has avoided the decline that can follow decades of success. Its inviting shop, extensive selection and memorable pies show why it remains a local favorite.

The experience begins with the aroma of fillings such as blackberry peach and coconut cream. Display shelves showcase pies with carefully crimped, buttery crusts and cream varieties crowned with whipped topping. Cookies are also available, including peanut butter kiss, chocolate chip and seasonally decorated sugar cookies.

During a Thursday evening visit, the shop felt warm and comfortable, and the attendant provided friendly service. The selection made choosing just two pies difficult.

Coconut cream, key lime, chocolate cream and banana cream occupied the upper shelves on one side. Fruit pies, including blackberry peach, appeared alongside pecan and other options on the other. After some deliberation, chocolate cream and blackberry peach won out.

Both looked meticulously finished. The chocolate cream pie featured evenly arranged whipped topping and chocolate flakes, while the blackberry peach arrived with a neatly crimped crust.

The blackberry peach pie balanced the sweet, mellow character of peaches with the sharper bitterness of blackberries. Its crust was crisp and buttery without feeling heavy.

The chocolate cream proved equally impressive. Smooth, rich chocolate mousse paired with a flaky crust, while a hint of bitterness kept the filling from becoming overly sweet and gave it greater depth.

From the welcoming service to the polished presentation and well-balanced flavors, the visit amounted to a five-star experience—and offered a compelling reason to return.
