Emergency crews rescued a driver from a pond near Walney Road and Westfields Boulevard in Chantilly after her vehicle crashed into the water. Fairfax County firefighters and police formed a human chain to bring her safely to shore. She was treated for minor injuries.

The approximately 2.5-mile 495 Express Lanes Extension Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail is now open. VDOT and Transurban marked the opening Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and family fitness events attended by hundreds of community members. The celebration took place in the future Scott’s Run Nature Preserve annex parking lot.
United Airlines is supporting a proposal to accelerate renovations at Dulles International Airport. Company executive Steve Morrissey said discussions involving United, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority were underway in earnest, describing the faster overhaul as the Trump administration’s preferred option.
Venezuelan restaurants across Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington are organizing donations for earthquake relief in a South American country where more than 1,400 people have died and over 3,000 have been injured. Large search-and-rescue efforts are also underway.
