Metro riders should prepare for bus detours, crowded stations and schedule changes from Friday, June 19, through Sunday, June 21, as the Juneteenth holiday and Capital Pride events reshape travel across the region.

Nearly 50 bus routes in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia will also receive service changes beginning Sunday.

Previously announced track work related to construction of Crystal City’s second entrance has been canceled because the planned work finished early. No weekend track work is scheduled.

Getting to Pride events

For Saturday’s 1.3-mile Capital Pride Parade along 14th Street NW, riders can use the Green or Yellow lines to U Street or Archives. McPherson Square, Metro Center and Federal Triangle on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines also provide short walks to the route.

The Block Party on 17th Street NW between P and Q streets is closest to Dupont Circle on the Red Line.

For Sunday’s Pride Festival and Concert along Pennsylvania Avenue NW, riders can take the Red Line to Judiciary Square or the Green and Yellow lines to Archives.

Stations serving the events are expected to be busier throughout the weekend.

Rail service and fares

Metrorail will operate during normal hours Friday through Sunday. Trains will run at weekend frequencies on Friday because of Juneteenth, followed by regular weekend service on Saturday and Sunday.

Metro plans additional capacity and more frequent service on the Red, Yellow and Green lines to accommodate Pride crowds.

Weekday rail fares remain in effect Friday. Late-night fares of $2.25 to $2.50 apply after 9:30 p.m. and throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Parking will be free at Metro-owned garages and lots during the holiday and weekend.

Bus and MetroAccess changes

Metrobus will follow a Saturday Supplemental schedule on Friday. Service varies by route, so customers should check individual route schedules before traveling.

Several routes will be detoured Saturday because the Pride Parade will occupy 14th Street from T Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. On Sunday, service revisions will take effect across nearly 50 routes. Normal bus fares apply.

MetroAccess customers may reserve holiday trips, but regularly scheduled subscription trips will be canceled. Separate reservations are available online or by calling 301-562-5360, or 301-588-7535 for TTY users. Regular fares remain in effect.

Riders can obtain automated information around the clock by calling 202-GO-METRO, with TTY service at 202-962-2033. Real-time updates are also available through Metro Alerts, the Metro Pulse app and Metro’s social-media accounts.
