A partial solar eclipse may be visible from the Washington, D.C., region early Saturday morning, offering local skywatchers a glimpse of the rare event.
NASA maps show the eclipse’s path extending from the D.C. area through Maine and parts of Canada, then across the Atlantic to portions of Africa and Europe.

Alleged MS-13 leader arrested in Manassas
A 24-year-old Salvadoran man accused of leading MS-13 operations on the East Coast was arrested in Manassas, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Thursday.
Authorities took him into custody on an outstanding ICE warrant. He was also charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
Virginia considers speed controls for reckless drivers
Virginia could become the first state to place electronic speed restrictions on vehicles driven by people convicted of reckless driving.
House Bill 2096 would create an Intelligent Speed Assistance Program. Gov. Glenn Youngkin returned the legislation to the House with an amendment.
Fairfax students advance to global art competition
Three Fairfax County students will represent the United States at the International Aviation Art Competition in Switzerland.
The students are Andrew Yang of Great Falls, Aspen Xing of Vienna and Lalitha Kuchipudi of Chantilly. They were selected from 140 entrants in the national competition after local residents also performed strongly at the state level.
Student raises alarm over after-school cuts
Poe Middle School student Diego Egas is urging Fairfax County to preserve funding for middle school after-school activities.
Diego, who participates in the program Monday through Friday, discussed his concerns during a virtual Mason District town hall Wednesday, March 26. The county’s proposed budget would eliminate funding for the program.
Patrick Henry Library plans farewell event
Patrick Henry Library in Vienna will host a community farewell celebration Saturday before an upcoming renovation and expansion.
The 54-year-old library is expected to close in late spring or early summer as construction begins.
Annandale night market returns Sunday
The monthly Asiantique night market will return to Annandale on Sunday, March 30.
The event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Elmer Timberman Masonic Lodge at 6911 Columbia Pike. About 25 food vendors, primarily serving Thai specialties, and two craft vendors are expected.
Friday brings a chance of showers
Showers are possible after 2 p.m. Friday, with partly sunny skies, a high near 68 degrees and a 30% chance of precipitation.
The chance of showers will remain at 30% through 8 p.m. The night should then become partly cloudy, with temperatures falling to around 59 degrees.
