George Mason University’s baseball team shattered a 42-year-old NCAA Division I record Tuesday, scoring 23 runs in a single inning against Holy Cross. The Patriots sent 28 batters to the plate during the second inning and defeated the visiting Crusaders 26-6 in Fairfax.
The victory improved George Mason’s record to 8-4, while Holy Cross fell to 5-5.
Elsewhere, the CIA has begun dismissing probationary employees as layoffs expand across intelligence agencies. About 80 CIA workers have reportedly been let go.
Fairfax County is planning an early learning center at the Hybla Valley Community Center. The county allocated $10 million in 2024 carryover funds for the facility, which would serve 86 children through age 5 and is tentatively expected to open in winter 2028. Another $500,000 will fund a feasibility study of possible childcare locations elsewhere in the county.
Early-stage businesses will soon have another opportunity to seek support from the Fairfax Founders Fund. Applications will be accepted from March 17 through April 21, 2025, with selected startups eligible to receive as much as $50,000.

A proposed state bill would permit local governments to require solar panels over parking lots, potentially expanding renewable-energy production in developed areas without using farmland or disrupting rural views.
At Inova, Richard Martin marked his 700th blood donation Wednesday. Martin began donating whole blood through the Red Cross before switching to Inova in 1982 after being asked to consider another form of donation.
