Gov. Abigail Spanberger marked her first 100 days in office Monday in Richmond, highlighting her administration’s work on healthcare, housing and energy affordability. A delayed state budget remains unfinished, however, and lawmakers must send it to her for approval in the coming weeks.
A federal judge approved Capital One’s $425 million class-action settlement over interest rates on savings accounts on April 20. If no appeal is filed, payments are expected to begin around July 27, 2026.
In Reston, a 5,798-square-foot penthouse on the 27th floor of the JW Marriott Residences sold for $10.25 million on April 1, setting a Virginia condo-sales record. The unit also includes a balcony. The previous record was $5.65 million for a 29th-floor residence at the Waterview tower in Rosslyn, sold in February 2024. County records show that at least 34 of the JW Marriott building’s 93 units have sold.
Little Beast is opening Wednesday at 119 E. Broad Street, on the ground floor of Broad & Washington in Falls Church. It is owner Aaron Gordon’s first Northern Virginia Little Beast location since he closed the Reston pizzeria and Red Velvet Cupcakery in 2023.
An art exhibit focused on teenage mental health was held April 24 at the Minnie Peyton Community Center in Bailey’s Crossroads. “Bridging the Gap” was designed to give teens experiencing mental health challenges an artistic outlet for expressing their feelings.
Caboose Brewing Co. earned a gold medal at the 2026 World Beer Cup for its Boxcar Brown Ale in the American-Style Brown Ale category. The company operates Caboose Tavern in Vienna and Caboose Commons in Fairfax. The ale previously won bronze at the 2025 competition.
Vienna Little League is celebrating its 75th season. The organization has grown from 175 players in 1952 to nearly 1,000 participants across 90 teams each spring. The Town of Vienna recognized the milestone Monday, April 27, by proclaiming “Vienna Little League Day.”
Fairfax County officials are also urging residents to prepare as tornado season intensifies in May. Residents should decide in advance where they will shelter and what they will do if a tornado warning is issued.
Showers are expected throughout Wednesday, with a possible thunderstorm after 2 p.m. and a high near 69 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 90%, with rainfall totals between a quarter-inch and half-inch possible. Rain chances will fall to 70% Wednesday night, when the temperature is expected to reach a low of about 51 degrees.
