The Reston Association Board of Directors unanimously appointed Peter Lusk as permanent CEO, effective July 17, 2026, according to the association.

Lusk, who has served as acting CEO since January 2026, joined Reston Association’s leadership team as chief operating officer in 2023. He replaced Mac Cummins, who resigned to pursue other professional opportunities and is scheduled to begin work as director of economic development for the City of Austin on July 27, 2026.

The board did not conduct a formal search for other CEO candidates. As of the announcement, Reston Association had not formally determined whether Lusk would continue concurrently as chief operating officer, and the association had not named an acting replacement.

Lusk becomes the association’s fourth CEO in eight years. Before joining Reston Association, he served as a division chief in the Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation. He holds a master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a bachelor’s degree from Fredonia State University, along with professional credentials from the Project Management Institute, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, and International Facility Management Association. In 2024, he was named to Leadership Fairfax’s Top 40 Under 40.

“It is an honor to be asked to steward a community with the history and relevance of Reston,” Lusk said in a statement. “I look forward to working towards a bright future with our staff, Board of Directors, and membership.”

Travis Johnson, speaking for the board, said: “We are confident that Peter is the right person to lead the Association into its next chapter, and we look forward to continuing our work together on behalf of the Reston community.”

Reston Association counts more than 63,000 residents among its members and manages four manmade lakes, recreational facilities, and more than 1,350 acres of open space.
