Hunters Woods Village Center in Reston has changed hands more than 15 years after Edens acquired the Safeway-anchored property during a broader expansion.
Fairfax County property records show that an affiliate of Pennsylvania-based real estate company J.C. Bar purchased the center for nearly $30.5 million on Dec. 18. The property is 88% leased, leaving almost 14,900 square feet of retail space vacant.
Two arrested after Annandale carjacking
A 19-year-old Annandale man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested following a brief chase connected to an armed carjacking in Annandale.
Fairfax County police responded to the 7400 block of Little River Turnpike around 1:45 a.m. Jan. 11. The victim said a person they knew had been riding in the vehicle before displaying a gun and ordering the victim out after an argument.
No injuries reported in Centreville fire
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming through the front door of a single-family house in the 15300 block of Harmony Hill Court around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Crews brought the fire under control, and no civilians or firefighters were injured. Fire departments from Loudoun and Prince William counties assisted with the response.
Senior federal prosecutor removed
The Justice Department fired Robert McBride, the second-ranking official in the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Virginia, after he declined to lead the disputed prosecution of former FBI Director James Comey.
McBride’s removal occurred the same day Lindsey Halligan defended her continued service as U.S. attorney despite a federal judge’s ruling that her appointment was unlawful.
Man charged in power-tool theft
A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft of multiple power tools from a work van in Rose Hill.
Officers were called to the 4500 block of Roundhill Road after someone forced entry into the van around 4:45 p.m. Dec. 30, 2025. A witness photographed both the person removing items and the vehicle involved.
The suspect initially escaped officers during a traffic stop but was later found and arrested in Fair Haven.
Japanese and Korean restaurant arrives in Annandale
Pike Chicken is preparing to open at 7023 Columbia Pike, in the former O’My Chiq location. A soft opening is expected Thursday afternoon, followed by a grand opening Friday.
The Japanese and Korean menu includes sushi and nigiri under its Roll Play offerings, along with stone-pot bibimbap and other Bowl Play dishes.
Sweet Leaf plans its first drive-thru
McLean-based Sweet Leaf Cafe is targeting a summer opening at 603 W. Broad Street, formerly occupied by a drive-thru Smoothie King.
The location will be Sweet Leaf’s first new cafe in five years and the company’s first to offer drive-thru service.
Japanese-Brazilian steakhouse makes Tysons debut
Churasuko, a new upscale Tysons steakhouse, is blending Japanese and Brazilian cooking in what owner Derek Liu believes is the first restaurant of its kind in the country.
Its offerings include tableside-carved wagyu, sashimi served on skewers and a seafood tower presented with dry ice and flames.
Rain could turn to snow overnight
Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 52 and a 20% chance of rain during the morning and late afternoon.
Rain chances rise to 70% Wednesday night, when temperatures are expected to fall to around 25. Snow could begin after 1 a.m., though little or no accumulation is anticipated.
