Reston Art Gallery and Studios will spotlight the coastal atmosphere of Maryland’s Eastern Shore in “Down the Shore,” a May exhibition of acrylic paintings by gallery director and artist Pat Macintyre.
The collection draws inspiration from the Eastern Shore, Isle of Wight Bay and Ocean City. Macintyre’s paintings feature waterfront scenes and nearby rural villages, including a Parsonsburg restaurant depicted on a canvas accompanied by a recipe for a muskrat dinner.
Other works place large shells against canvases washed in pale colors, creating a floating effect.
A public reception is scheduled for Sunday, May 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. Visitors can meet Macintyre, view the collection and enjoy refreshments at the lakeside gallery. The exhibition continues through May 31.
The artist-run collective presents monthly solo exhibitions by its eight members as well as several group shows. Its selection includes original watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings, mixed-media works, sculpture, photography and art objects available for purchase.
A Reston landmark since 1987, the gallery is located at 11400 Washington Plaza West in Reston. It is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. and by appointment.
