Robinson Secondary School won the Virginia High School League National Guard Cup for both athletics and academic activities among Class 6 schools during the 2024-25 school year, a rare double victory recognizing statewide competitive success.
The award, sometimes called the “state champion of champions,” honors schools with the strongest overall results in VHSL state competitions. The program covers 27 sports and 12 academic activities.
Winners are selected through a points system based on performances in sanctioned state competitions. Athletic scoring also incorporates sportsmanship, while academic points can come from activities including Scholastic Bowl, creative writing, theatre, forensics, debate, film, broadcasting and student publications.
Principal Tracey Phillips credited the achievement to students, coaches, teachers and families.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for our school community,” Phillips said. “It reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of our families.”
Robinson’s two awards reflect work across playing fields, classrooms, rehearsals and other extracurricular settings. Few schools win both National Guard Cups in the same year.
