A long-planned Route 28 bypass is officially dead, while Northern Virginia residents face a Wednesday night forecast of sleet and freezing rain. Here are the latest local developments for Feb. 5, 2025.
Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., will host a candlelight vigil at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for the 67 people killed in the American Airlines crash near Reagan National Airport the previous week. The gathering will be held at Rivergate City Park, 2 Montgomery St., along Alexandria’s waterfront.
A preliminary National Transportation Safety Board report on the crash is not expected for several weeks. Arlington’s representatives in Congress have offered few conclusions about possible causes, though local concerns about crowded airspace and the number of flights at National Airport date back years.
