The Fairfax County School Board elected Dranesville District representative Robyn Lady as chair and at-large member Kyle McDaniel as vice chair for the 2026-27 school year at its July 9, 2026, regular meeting.

Lady, who began her current tenure on January 1, 2024, previously served as the board’s vice chair during the 2025-26 school year. She chaired the Governance Committee, overseeing revisions to the school division’s grading policy.

“Together, we will continue building on FCPS’ tradition of excellence while keeping students at the center of every decision we make,” Lady said in a statement. “I’m committed to listening thoughtfully, fostering collaboration, and ensuring our work reflects both the aspirations of our community and the promise of every child we serve.”

Lady brings more than 30 years of public-education experience to the role. She worked as an FCPS school counselor and served 15 years as Chantilly High School’s director of Student Services. A Madison High School graduate and FCPS parent, Lady holds degrees from the College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia, and George Mason University.

McDaniel, who also took office on January 1, 2024, chaired the Comprehensive Planning and Development Committee during the 2025-26 school year and served as Budget Committee vice chair. He also sat on the Audit and Administration committees and acted as one of the board’s liaisons to the Fairfax County Planning Commission.

“I’m grateful to my colleagues for the opportunity to serve as vice chair and look forward to supporting Chair Lady,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel holds degrees from George Mason University and American University, where he studied public administration, public finance, and state and local government. Before his election to the school board, he founded and operated two family businesses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he moved into aviation and now holds the rating of Airline Transport Pilot.

The school board also includes Tom Dannan, Marcia St. John-Cunning, Melanie Meren, Ricardy Anderson, Mateo Dunne, Karl Frisch, Sandy Anderson, Seema Dixit, Ryan McElveen, and Ilryong Moon. The named members’ terms run through December 31, 2027.
