Scott Shawkey’s path to McLean real estate began in hospitality and technology before he launched his residential property career in 2001.
A graduate of Johnson & Wales University with a degree in business management, Shawkey held leadership positions with Marriott and Interstate Hotels. He later managed site licensing and software sales for a Boston company.
After returning to Northern Virginia, Shawkey became a Northern Virginia Association of Realtors Top Producer. In 2009, amid the aftermath of the financial crisis, he formed the Capital Area Real Estate Group. The business later became Capital Area Homes and now operates under Keller Williams Realty in McLean.
The team includes agents Theresa Kossey and Yassine Hasan, along with Director of Operations Shelby Ford and others. Together, its members have more than 60 years of combined real estate experience and work with buyers and sellers across Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Its core service area includes McLean, Great Falls, Vienna, Arlington, Falls Church and Fairfax. The group also handles executive relocations for corporate clients bringing senior employees and their families to the Washington region.
For homebuyers, the team works with clients ranging from first-time purchasers to families seeking larger properties and seniors preparing to move into different kinds of housing. Its agents assist with searches, offers and the details of navigating competitive transactions.
Capital Area Homes markets properties through online promotion, professional photography, staging guidance, pricing analysis and outreach to its professional network. Shawkey received the McLean Keller Williams office’s top group production recognition for listings taken in 2016. That year, he was also included on a list of Virginia’s 100 most influential real estate agents.
Shawkey has been described as ranking among the top 1% of Realtors nationwide and is an accredited member of the Luxury Home Marketing Division. He has also appeared on HGTV’s “Get It Sold.”
Properties associated with the team have included 9185 Old Dominion Drive, 1200 Dominion Court and 7916 Lewinsville Road in McLean. The team also marketed 1446 Cola Drive, an all-brick-and-stone home built by Cherry Hill Custom Homes with six bedrooms, six full bathrooms and more than 7,485 square feet.
Capital Area Homes also works in the new-construction market, partnering with builders including Whitestone Custom Homes and Porter Ridge Homes on luxury projects in McLean and Arlington.
Shawkey lives in McLean with his wife, Anne, and their four children. His company sponsors McLean High School athletics as the school’s official real estate team and participates in client events and other local partnerships.
