Severe winter weather sharply curtailed home-buying activity across the Mid-Atlantic during the week ending February 1, 2026, as fewer buyers toured properties and fewer sellers placed homes on the market.
The region recorded 56,402 home showings, down 24% from the corresponding week in 2025. Every subregion experienced a decline as extreme temperatures kept many prospective buyers from viewing available properties.
The slowdown extended to signed deals. Buyers entered 4,141 new contracts during the week, a 12.8% year-over-year decrease. The reduction followed the drop in showings, with fewer people venturing out to tour homes and move forward with purchases.
Sellers also pulled back during the severe conditions. A total of 3,633 new listings reached the market, representing an 18.3% decline from the same week one year earlier.
The figures cover a Mid-Atlantic real estate service area spanning Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
