Fairfax County residents are being warned about fraudulent voicemails from callers posing as sheriff’s deputies.

The messages may identify the caller as “Lt. Michael McCrae” and urgently mention missed jury duty, legal trouble or a need to call back. The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office says the calls are scams and advises recipients not to return them.

Families of the 67 people killed when an airliner collided with an Army helicopter near the nation’s capital last year are joining key senators in calling for aviation reforms. They believe advanced aircraft locator systems, recommended by experts for nearly two decades, could have prevented the crash.

Drivers should expect delays on Rolling Road, also known as Route 638, between Viola Street and Birmingham Lane. The road will be reduced to one lane with flaggers alternating traffic from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, for pavement work connected to the Rolling Road widening project. Alternate routes are advised.

Saks Fifth Avenue at Tysons Galleria in McLean is not currently among the eight stores Saks Global plans to close during its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The Virginia location scheduled to shut this spring is at Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond.

The Pennino human services building remains closed until further notice after flooding caused damage last week. Repairs are continuing, and Fairfax County is directing residents to alternate ways of accessing services normally offered there.

StoneSprings Hospital Center is considering the current Santini’s New York Style Deli property in Chantilly for a new freestanding emergency room.

In Lincolnia, the TD Bank branch at Little River Turnpike and Braddock Road beside Pinecrest Plaza has closed. The branch opened in 2017 on the former site of an Exxon gas station. TD Bank closed 38 branches in 2025 and planned 51 additional closures in early 2026.

Halal Burger Paradise is also searching for Northern Virginia locations. The chain wants between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet of retail space and is targeting Sterling, Chantilly, Fairfax, Springfield and Manassas.

Friday’s forecast calls for sunshine, a high near 39 degrees and northwest winds of 7 to 10 mph, with gusts reaching 20 mph. Skies should remain mostly clear overnight as the temperature falls to around 28 degrees, accompanied by a light southwest breeze.
