A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting Thursday, March 19, in Bailey’s Crossroads, while Fairfax County police released footage from a separate officer-involved shooting in Mantua.
Officers responding to the 5500 block of Seminary Road found the Bailey’s Crossroads victim with a gunshot wound to his lower body. He was taken to a hospital. Police located a second person identified as a victim, but that individual was unharmed.
The department also released body-camera video from a Feb. 23 police shooting at a Fairfax apartment. Police said Chhatra Thapa, 54, had stabbed his wife, Binda, and daughter, Mamta, before officers arrived and was stabbing Mamta’s husband, Santosh Basnet, when they reached the scene.
Virginia’s proposed redistricting referendum continues to divide political leaders. Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell, a Democrat whose district includes part of Fairfax County, expects the measure to pass but believes the vote will be close. Former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, a Republican, remains firmly opposed to the referendum and the broader redistricting effort.
Metro is preparing for a possible ridership increase as higher gas prices make driving more expensive and crime on the transit system declines. General Manager Randy Clarke said Metro welcomes additional passengers choosing trains or buses.
The transit agency is also marking 50 years of service in the Washington region. Metro is inviting riders to share what the system means to them for a chance to join an exclusive anniversary trip Friday, March 27, featuring music and giveaways. Entries close at noon March 24.
McLean-based Claros Inc. is searching for space suitable for a new innovation center. The startup is developing a power-management system and supply chips intended to reduce data-center energy costs, but its existing McLean office cannot provide the necessary electrical capacity.
CEO Daniel Kultran is discussing potential space with George Mason University, Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia. Claros aims to test its technology with its first customer by early 2027.

In Herndon, children ages 2 to 15 can take part in the town’s annual Kids Trout Fishing Derby on March 21. The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon along Sugarland Run behind the Herndon Police Station.
Friday’s forecast calls for scattered showers after 2 p.m., increasing clouds and a high near 68 degrees. Rain becomes more likely during the evening, particularly from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., with a nighttime low around 49. The chance of precipitation rises from 30% during the day to 60% overnight.
