Sleeping Belle Haven Residents Escape Early-Morning Electrical Fire

Two people escaped unharmed after an electrical fire broke out inside the wall of their Belle Haven home while they slept early Wednesday, March 4.

Two people escaped unharmed after an electrical fire broke out inside the wall of their Belle Haven home while they slept early Wednesday, March 4.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department crews responded to the 2600 block of East Side Drive at 4:13 a.m. They arrived to find flames coming through the roof of the two-story, single-family house.

Firefighters launched suppression and search operations and brought the blaze under control. No residents or firefighters were injured.

One occupant awoke after smelling smoke and discovered fire inside the wall of a nearby closet. Both occupants evacuated before calling 911.

Smoke alarms were installed in the home but did not activate because of the fire’s location.

Investigators determined that the accidental blaze began inside the wall of a second-floor bedroom following an electrical event. Damage was estimated at approximately $20,129.
