Tysons Corner Center is heading into a packed summer, led by the arrival of a two-story slime attraction and a new series of free family movie nights on PenFed Plaza.
Sloomoo Institute is expected to open near Nordstrom sometime in July, although an exact date has not been announced. The 17,000-square-foot venue will occupy two levels, including the former Paul Mitchell Beauty School space.
Visitors will be able to make, launch, shop for and even get dunked in slime. Attractions will include “slimescapes,” ASMR sound baths, a growing slime wall and Sloomoo Falls. The venue will also offer private birthday parties and an expanded DIY Design Bar featuring more than 4 million possible combinations.
Sloomoo Institute was founded by two friends who found that playing with slime helped relieve stress and anxiety. Its first location, a 12,000-square-foot slime-making kitchen, opened in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood in October 2019.
The company has since expanded to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles, along with smaller MiniMoo locations in Boston and Philadelphia.
New stores fill the mall
The slime attraction will join several businesses that have recently opened at Tysons Corner Center, including an expanded Zara and a relocated Maggiano’s.
London-based shoe and accessories company Kurt Geiger is now operating on the second level next to Johnnie-O, near the Apple Store.
Mattress company Casper has opened at 1961 Chain Bridge Road, Unit O9L, on the first floor near Nordstrom.
La Dolce Bon Bon, known for fruit-shaped desserts and ice cream, opened a kiosk June 7 on the first floor outside Barnes & Noble.
Meta Lab has also opened a second-floor kiosk near the PenFed Plaza entrance, allowing shoppers to try AI glasses from Facebook parent company Meta.
Neuhaus Chocolates, Blue Bottle Coffee and Tiny’s Corner, a combined play area and cafe, are expected to arrive in the coming months. Construction is also underway on Dick’s House of Sport in the former Lord & Taylor wing, with an opening anticipated in fall 2027.
Movies and soccer come to PenFed Plaza
A newly installed digital screen on PenFed Plaza will anchor a lineup of free family movie nights. The series begins with “Space Jam,” with each screening scheduled to run from 5:30 to about 7:30 p.m.
Upcoming movies are:
- July 17: “National Treasure”
- Aug. 21: “Cars”
- Sept. 18: “Max”
- Oct. 16: “The Nightmare Before Christmas”
Guests can bring folding stadium chairs or blankets to watch the films outdoors.
The plaza will also hold World Cup watch parties July 10, 15 and 19 as part of the Tysons Community Alliance’s annual COPA Tysons celebration. Each match will feature live music, giveaways, food and drink specials, and activities before and after the game.
Additional plaza programming will include family game nights, live music, retail pop-ups and a “Strength & Sculpt Series” of Wellness Sunday workouts led by trainer Lindsay Bishop.
