Northern Virginia transportation services are returning to normal after the week’s snowstorm, but drivers and transit riders could still encounter delays as bitter cold and strong winds linger.

The George Washington Memorial Parkway has reopened after shutting down at 6 p.m. Jan. 6 ahead of the snowfall. Motorists should remain cautious in the construction zone, where traffic is limited to one lane in each direction.

Metrobus plans to restore regular service on all routes Thursday, though some routes could face detours or delays. Metrorail and MetroAccess are also expected to operate normally, with possible weather-related disruptions.

In McLean, a family believes someone stole a prized goose and 10 chickens from Bullneck Run Farm. The family reported finding no signs that a fox or another predator took the birds.

Oakton’s first Restaurant Week will run Jan. 17-26. Organized by the Greater Oakton Community Association, the event will feature specials and deals from 11 participating restaurants.

A 14,000-square-foot home in McLean’s Langley Farms neighborhood sold Tuesday for $17 million after being listed at $22.25 million. The transaction was the second-highest-priced Northern Virginia home sale of the past year.

Tatte Bakery & Cafe is expected to open at 1001 W. Broad Street in Falls Church this summer, bringing its pastries and brunch menu to another location in the region. Its only Fairfax County shop is currently at Reston Town Center.

The Herndon Town Council has appointed Clark Hedrick as vice mayor for the 2025-2026 term. Hedrick is serving his second terms on both the council and as vice mayor alongside Mayor Keven LeBlanc.

Thursday’s forecast calls for sunshine and a high near 28 degrees. Northwest winds of 16 to 23 mph could gust as high as 41 mph. Skies should remain mostly clear overnight as the temperature falls to around 17, with gusts potentially reaching 26 mph.
