A Monday snowstorm blanketed Fairfax County with roughly 6 inches of snow, closing public facilities and forcing businesses to shut down, shorten their hours or offer specials to customers venturing out.
Pupatella locations in Merrifield and Springfield offered select pizzas for $10 throughout the day. Bear Branch Tavern at 133 Maple Ave. E in Vienna extended its happy hour from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., while Kalypso’s Sports Tavern at 1617 Washington Plaza in Reston remained open and scheduled snow karaoke for 7:30 p.m.
Several other establishments changed their plans because of the weather.
River-Sea Chocolates at 4520 Daly Drive in Chantilly closed for the day, as did The Block Foodhall and Bar at 4221 John Marr Drive in Annandale.
The Casual Pint at 2676 Avenir Place in Dunn Loring planned to open at 3 p.m. Urbano Tex-Mex Restaurant at 2985 District Avenue in Merrifield set its opening for 2 p.m.
In the Tysons, McLean and Vienna area, Tysons Galleria and Royal Nepal Bistro at 131 Maple Avenue W in Vienna closed. Fresh Baguette at 6707 Old Dominion Drive in McLean planned to close at 2 p.m., while The Virginian Restaurant at 169 Glyndon Street SE in Vienna closed at 12:30 p.m.
The storm also disrupted public operations across Fairfax County. Fairfax County Public Schools, county government offices and county courts closed. Fairfax Connector suspended bus service, and the county canceled Monday trash collection.
