A winter weather advisory was in effect Thursday, Feb. 20, from 7 to 11 a.m., with accumulating snow and slick roads expected during the morning commute. Surface temperatures were forecast to remain in the upper teens to low 20s.

Snow was expected mainly before 1 p.m., with less than an inch of accumulation possible and an 80% chance of precipitation. The high was forecast near 29 degrees, while wind gusts could reach 33 mph. Thursday night was expected to be partly cloudy and blustery, with a low around 22.

In Tysons, Nodal Exchange LLC announced plans to invest $300,000 in an expansion that will create 33 jobs. The power futures exchange, a subsidiary of Deutsche Boerse Group’s EEX Group, is headquartered at 1921 Gallows Road.

The family of a passenger killed in the midair collision near Washington, D.C., filed legal claims against the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Army. The family is seeking $250 million for each claim.

Virginia lawmakers unanimously approved legislation banning the personal use of campaign funds, sending the measure to the governor. The practice is already prohibited in 48 states and in federal elections. State Sen. Jennifer Boysko, who sponsored the Senate version, called the legislation “a long-overdue first step” toward restoring trust in democracy.

Fairfax County also highlighted services for residents facing job losses as the federal government moves to substantially reduce its workforce and budget. County officials said thousands of residents and their families could be affected, including federal employees and contractors.

City of Fairfax police asked for help locating a man wanted on two felony firearm-possession warrants and four misdemeanor warrants. Authorities warned the public not to approach him because he is known to carry guns and knives.

In Springfield, Bias Studios remains an inconspicuous local landmark beside a firehouse. The one-story brick recording studio has produced music since 1980.
