A woman suffered injuries Wednesday night after a stolen delivery vehicle crashed into multiple vehicles near Richmond Highway and Lorton Road in Lorton, Fairfax County police said.
The vehicle was reportedly stolen near Backlick Road and Richmond Highway in Fort Belvoir before the series of collisions. The woman was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, and the suspect was taken into custody.
In Merrifield, Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed a package of health care bills Wednesday at the Inova Schar Cancer Institute. The measures seek to cap insulin costs, expand insurance benefits and restrict insurers’ use of prior authorization and artificial intelligence.
Federal officials have assigned the July 4 celebration on the National Mall the highest-level security designation, making additional local and federal law enforcement resources available. The Department of Homeland Security typically reserves the designation for events considered potential targets for terrorism or other crimes.
Virginia could also move toward requiring diaper-changing stations in public restrooms. The Board of Housing and Community Development advanced a proposal from state Sen. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, whose district includes Alexandria and part of Fairfax County, on Monday, May 11. A final vote will follow a public-comment period.
In Annandale, Mad Seafood has opened at the intersection of Annandale Road, Poplar Street and Markham Street. The restaurant serves Louisiana-inspired Cajun dishes featuring farm-raised fish and shrimp.
A new mural is also taking shape on the side of Annandale Watch & Clock at 4221 Annandale Road. The artwork honors singer-songwriter Cat Janice, who died from cancer in 2024 after her song “Dance Outta My Head” went viral. Her mother, Annandale resident Stacey Ipsan, said the mural should be finished by the end of next week.
A Falls Church congressional candidate, Schiarizzi, said he expects to leave the race if the Virginia Supreme Court’s redistricting decision remains in place. Like other candidates considering the proposed new 7th District, he was waiting for a final outcome before formally announcing his plans.
In McLean, Café Tatti is continuing under new ownership after Giovanni Carlo and his wife, Sema, took over the 45-year-old restaurant last year. Carlo said his version of a traditional winter dish has become such a draw for new customers that removing it from the menu may be difficult.
Thursday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 65 degrees. Northwest winds of 11 to 14 mph could gust as high as 23 mph. The evening should be partly cloudy, with a low around 51 and gusts reaching 18 mph.
