The Tall Ship Providence Foundation will suspend its educational programs and public tours beginning June 26, 2026, as it searches for a way to continue its nonprofit mission.
The foundation plans to evaluate several strategic alternatives during the suspension. One option is an accelerated merger with the proposed United States Maritime Museum on Alexandria’s waterfront, near the foundation’s facilities and Tall Ship Providence at Waterfront Park.
If no workable solution is found, the foundation could permanently cease operations. Its Pier Bar will remain open during the suspension to help pay for ship maintenance and other essential expenses.
Founded in 2017, the foundation has worked to preserve the nation’s maritime heritage and teach visitors about Providence’s role in the American Revolution. Its Living History Tours earned Traveler’s Choice recognition as a top tourist destination for three consecutive years.
The organization has also served thousands of local students through a field-trip program offering free educational experiences to Title One schools. Foundation leaders credited the support of donors, volunteers and visitors for making those programs possible.
