Teddy Beats has built a wide following with an “indie electronic” sound—and now the Washington-area musician is channeling that momentum into a new EP, “I Make This All For You.”

His music has accumulated 40 million online streams and attracted listeners well beyond the United States. It has also been featured online in Amsterdam, introducing the electronic act to more fans overseas.

During live performances, Teddy constructs his music in real time. “I build tracks piece by piece on stage,” he said.

His wife, Mandy Kimlick, is an essential part of the two-person operation. She oversees marketing and computer support and occasionally contributes vocals. “My wife sings on the songs every now and then,” Teddy said.

The couple met while Mandy was moving into an apartment in Washington, D.C. Teddy described the encounter as “love at first sight.”

Mandy, who is from Burke, began pursuing music while attending Lake Braddock High School. After earning a teaching degree from George Mason University, she moved to D.C. She grew up in a musical family, and her mother continues to perform with the Vienna Falls Choir.

Teddy’s own path began in the D.C.-area hip-hop scene. His early connections included DJ and producer Chucky Thompson, who worked with Bad Boy Records and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Exposure on SiriusXM helped expand the audience for Teddy and Mandy’s music. The duo now performs annually at the Preakness horse race and has appeared in Baltimore’s Fells Point, at house shows across the D.C., Maryland and Virginia region, and on a college tour with stops at the University of Virginia, the University of Maryland and a school in Canada.

They also performed at the Firefly Festival in Dover, Delaware, in 2022. Another standout show took place aboard a yacht traveling along the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.

“It was really fun,” Mandy said.
