Fairfax County school staff distributed more than 7,000 meals and 2,300 snacks during a week of snow closures, helping students maintain access to daily nutrition while schools were closed.
Food and Nutrition Services offered meal kits for pickup at several schools. Families received breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items that could be heated and served at home.
The kits included pancakes, chicken sandwiches, vegan burgers, turkey sandwiches, fresh apples and carrots, juice, milk, sunflower seeds, Craisins and Cheez-Its.
More than 3,000 meals and 1,000 snacks were distributed Tuesday and Wednesday at Falls Church, Herndon, Justice and Mount Vernon high schools.
On Thursday, staff provided another 4,000-plus meals and 1,330 snacks. Distribution also expanded to Dogwood, London Towne and Lynbrook elementary schools.
