Fairfax County police arrested a 49-year-old Idylwood man after investigating eight reports of someone peeping into homes at the Alister Falls Church apartment complex.

The man was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 8, and charged with five counts of peeping into an occupied dwelling.

The investigation began April 9, 2024, when a woman in the 2100 block of Evans Court reported seeing a man looking through her window. Seven more incidents were reported in the same block between April 11 and Dec. 9.

Each incident occurred between 5:40 and 6 a.m., according to police. Detectives with the department’s Sex Crimes Unit concluded that the same person was responsible for all eight cases.

Police released surveillance images of the suspected peeper on Dec. 19. A week later, on Dec. 26, detectives received a Fairfax County Crime Solvers tip from someone who had seen the public notice. Police said the information helped them identify the suspect.

Fairfax County Crime Solvers accepts anonymous tips by phone and email. The nonprofit, led by community members and business leaders, has helped authorities make more than 1,917 arrests since it began in October 1979.

The arrested man was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and later released on recognizance, court records show. His arraignment was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, followed by an adjudicatory hearing on Feb. 24.

Peeping into an occupied dwelling is a Class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia. A conviction can carry up to 12 months in jail and a fine of as much as $2,500.
