Fairfax County Public Schools offered 550 students admission to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology’s Class of 2030, marking the sixth consecutive year that every FCPS middle school is represented.

The students were selected from 2,762 applicants across Fairfax County, Arlington County, Loudoun County, Prince William County and the City of Falls Church. The applicant pool had an average GPA of 3.90, while students who received offers averaged 3.96.

About 24.4% of admitted students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and 10% are multilingual learners. All students receiving offers satisfied the accelerated honors coursework and minimum GPA requirements.

The incoming class is 60.9% Asian, 19.6% White, 6.7% multiracial, 6.5% Hispanic and 5.8% Black. Students receiving special education services account for 3.5% of those admitted.

Representation across Fairfax County

Students from every FCPS middle school received admission offers, including schools historically underrepresented at TJHSST. Before the admissions process changed in 2020, the selective high school did not consistently admit students from every county middle school.

Admissions reviewers evaluate applications without knowing applicants’ names, schools, races or genders.

Carson Middle School received the largest number of offers among the schools listed, with 42. Longfellow had 26 offers, followed by Cooper with 23, Kilmer with 20, Rocky Run and Twain with 17 each, Jackson with 16, Thoreau with 15, Frost with 14, Glasgow with 12, and Katherine Johnson, Lake Braddock and Sandburg with 11 each. Every other FCPS middle school had 10 or fewer students offered admission.

Established in 1985, TJHSST is a Governor’s School centered on science, mathematics and technology. Its academic program emphasizes rigorous study, discovery, ethical conduct and innovation.
