Two 20-year-old women face multiple charges after Fairfax County detectives linked them to a series of retail thefts involving more than $11,000 in merchandise.

The investigation began with a grand larceny reported at 5:51 p.m. on July 19, 2024, in the 2900 block of District Avenue at Merrifield’s Mosaic District. Police said three women entered a business, stole merchandise valued at $4,238 and escaped in a vehicle before officers arrived.

Detectives identified two suspects: a Maryland woman and a D.C. woman. Investigators also connected them to thefts reported during the preceding months.

Those cases included $1,345 in merchandise stolen May 15 from Springfield Town Center; $5,212 stolen June 3 from Reston Town Center; and $1,000 stolen that same day from a business in the 5700 block of Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads.

Police linked the Maryland woman to all four thefts and believe the D.C. woman participated in three.

Detectives later learned that both women were being held in other jurisdictions. The Maryland woman had been arrested on separate charges in Montgomery County and was extradited to Fairfax County on March 19.

Court records show that she now faces 17 counts, including four counts of grand larceny, three counts each of larceny with intent to sell and conspiracy to commit larceny, and two hit-and-run counts. She was also charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer, eluding, reckless driving, driving without an operator’s license and using altered or forged license plates.

She was released from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond. Her preliminary hearing in Fairfax County General District Court is scheduled for June 23.

The D.C. woman remains at the Howard County Jail in Maryland and is expected to be extradited after the legal proceedings there are completed. Fairfax County detectives obtained warrants charging her with three counts each of grand larceny, larceny with intent to sell and conspiracy to commit larceny.

Police announced the charges on March 28, hours after discussing the arrests of three other people accused of participating in a burglary ring that targeted Ulta Beauty stores across the D.C. region and allegedly stole more than $180,000 in merchandise.
