Tysons residents and workers can trade solo car trips for biking, walking or scooting this National Bike Month—and compete for weekly e-bike prizes along the way.
The Tysons Community Alliance has launched its self-guided “Tysons Trek & Treat” challenge, encouraging participants to visit destinations across Tysons using active transportation.
The contest began May 1 and runs through May 29. Registration remains open to people age 18 or older who live or work in Tysons.
Participants track eligible trips through ConnectingVA, a Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation app that helps commuters explore travel options. Users can log trips, accumulate points and earn rewards.
A Velotric Fold One Plus E-Bike will be awarded each week. The grand-prize winner will be announced June 11 during an upcoming COPA Tysons watch party.
In addition to an e-bike, the grand prize includes two rear-rack bags, a folding lock, a helmet voucher and a $100 Experience Tysons gift card valid at participating businesses.
Tysons will also host five Bike to Work Day pit stops May 15. Locations include Valo Park at 7950 Jones Branch Drive, The Boro, Tysons Corner Center, Capital One Center and Mitre Corporation’s headquarters on Colshire Drive in Scotts Run.
The stops are expected to offer refreshments, giveaways and opportunities for community engagement during morning and afternoon commutes.
Founded in October 2022, the Tysons Community Alliance works to promote Tysons and support Fairfax County’s plans to develop the area as a mixed-use urban center. Its efforts include gathering economic data, advocating for transportation and accessibility improvements, and organizing projects intended to strengthen Tysons’ identity.
The organization recently installed wayfinding signs along local streets and trails and near landmarks. Updated map kiosks are expected to arrive at all four Tysons Metro stations sometime in June.
TCA Vice President of Place and Transportation Jason Zogg said the Bike Month events and infrastructure projects are part of a wider effort to make Tysons easier and more enjoyable to navigate without a car.
