Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk has joined the opposition to legislation that could bring a casino referendum to Tysons. Lusk told attendees at a district open house Saturday that he contacted Virginia House Speaker Don Scott to voice his objections as the bill moves through the General Assembly.
Del. Dan Helmer of Fairfax has filed a $15 million defamation lawsuit over sexual assault allegations that emerged shortly before his congressional primary. Helmer claims the accusations were knowingly false and politically motivated.
At the 38th Annual Mount Vernon Town Meeting, elected officials representing the area raised concerns about White House policies affecting their constituents. They pledged to defend and support the groups facing impacts from those policies.
Tysons-based Booz Allen Hamilton has withdrawn its sponsorship of WorldPride 2025, which will take place in Washington, D.C., this spring. Classes have begun at the University of Virginia’s new Fairfax campus in Merrifield, even as workers finish final adjustments. The campus occupies two floors of the Inova Center for Personalized Health complex and is scheduled to hold its grand opening Feb. 28.
The future of helicopter operations around Reagan National Airport remains unsettled. The Federal Aviation Administration has halted nearly all helicopter traffic over the Potomac River near the airport while investigators examine the crash that killed 67 people. Arlington’s congressman is pressing officials to ensure tighter safety restrictions do not push additional aircraft noise over residential neighborhoods.
Creative Cauldron will open its new theater at the Broad and Washington development in Falls Church on Feb. 13. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception are scheduled for 1 p.m. at 127 East Broad Street.
The McLean Community Center is seeking district residents interested in serving on its Governing Board. This year’s election includes three adult seats and two youth seats. Absentee voting begins April 2, and the election will conclude after McLean Day in mid-May.
