Marufuji Japanese Market will celebrate its grand opening at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, bringing an 18,444-square-foot Japanese grocery store to Tysons Center 3.

Giveaways, special deals and demonstrations are expected during the opening celebration, though plans are still being finalized, Fuji Mart Corp. Vice President Joshua Nakama said.

The opening follows a delay from the previously anticipated December 2024 launch. Construction has been completed, but the store needed required inspections and approvals from Fairfax County before welcoming customers.

Located at 8520-A Leesburg Pike, next to the Tile Shop and near the Spring Hill Metro station, Marufuji is taking over a space left vacant after Ethan Allen closed in 2019.

The Tysons store will be Fuji Mart Corp.’s largest location and its first in the Washington, D.C., region. The Connecticut-based company has primarily operated in New England, with stores in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Nakama said the company chose Tysons because of its reputation as a high-quality shopping destination and its proximity to other Japanese businesses. The area includes Yido Ramen and Sushi, Umai Ramen and Donburi, which opened in Tysons West in October, and Modan, which opened Nov. 8 in Scotts Run.

The market is designed to recreate the experience of shopping in Japan. Its selection will include sashimi-grade fish, Wagyu beef, Japanese-style cuts of meat and other staples used in Japanese cooking.

Marufuji will also carry housewares and home goods. A made-to-order section will serve scratch-made Japanese comfort food, tea and coffee for dining in or taking out.

Nakama said the company hopes to serve Northern Virginia’s Japanese community while introducing its products to other customers seeking Japanese food and culture.
