Marufuji Japanese Market will hold its grand opening in Tysons on Saturday, Jan. 25, bringing Japanese groceries, prepared foods and home goods to 8520-A Leesburg Pike.
Festivities begin at 10 a.m. The first 1,000 guests on Saturday and another 1,000 on Sunday, Jan. 26, will receive free Marufuji-branded tote bags. Grocery specials will run throughout the weekend.
Planned tastings and demonstrations will feature sushi, tea from 435-year-old manufacturer Yamamotoyama and okonomiyaki from sauce maker Otafuku. Okonomiyaki is a savory pancake commonly prepared with cabbage, meat or seafood.
For the opening, the market is flying sashimi-grade fish directly from Japan and will also offer Wagyu beef.
The 18,444-square-foot store, located beside The Tile Shop, includes Japanese pantry staples, Asian snacks, housewares and other home goods. Shoppers will also find a made-to-order section and a cafe serving coffee, matcha lattes and Japanese comfort food.
The Tysons market is Fuji Mart Corp.’s first location in the Washington, D.C., region. The Connecticut-based company has previously focused most of its specialty stores in New England.
After opening day, Marufuji will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
