The board unanimously adopted the school division’s advertised fiscal 2026 budget, advancing a spending plan centered on higher academic standards, competitive employee compensation and responsible use of taxpayer funds.
Superintendent Michelle Reid also presented the school year 2024-25 report for Strategic Plan Goal 3, which focuses on academic growth and excellence. The board approved the report.
The strategic plan review process begins with a written draft, continues through a work session and ends with a public presentation of the final report. Each review examines one of the plan’s five goal areas, offers key updates on the remaining four and identifies major activities planned for the coming year.
Reid also delivered an Academic Matters presentation on career and technical education.
The regular meeting began at 7 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. The Daniels Run Elementary School Singers, directed by Michelle McCarten, performed the national anthem, while the Justice High School Chamber Choir, directed by Miranda Lansberry, performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
The board approved proclamations recognizing Custodians and Food and Nutrition Services Employees Appreciation Month and School Bus Driver, Bus Attendant and Crossing Guard Appreciation Month.
Seven members of the public spoke during the community participation period. Student representative Megan Sawant also presented her report.
The consent agenda included approval of the Jan. 9, 2025, meeting minutes, additional advisory committee appointments, a Mathematics Basal Instructional Resource Review Committee, the January 2025 monthly employee separation report and several contracts.
Kyle Dunne reported on the Comprehensive Planning and Development Committee, Rachna Sizemore Heizer Lady provided a Governance Committee update, and Melanie K. Meren St. John-Cunning reported on the Public Engagement Committee. Reid then presented superintendent matters before the meeting concluded with board matters.
The meeting adjourned at 10:26 p.m. The listed upcoming meetings were a work session at 10:30 a.m. March 11, 2025, and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. March 13, 2025.
