Vienna author Rowena Saura has transformed her late rescue beagle’s travels through London into a children’s book celebrating humor, kindness and friendship.

Saura has lived in Vienna for a total of 17 years. She adopted Amos from Mutt Love Rescue in Fairfax before leaving her Smithsonian job in 2018 and moving to London with him.

Amos became comfortable riding the Tube, double-decker buses and trains as the pair explored England. Saura described him as an effective “ambassador” because Londoners and tourists frequently stopped to greet him and pat his head.

“Walking around London with a dog is like walking with a celebrity,” she said.

Amos died at the end of 2024, but Saura said she will always remember the happiness he brought to people on both sides of the Atlantic.

Her book, “The Beagle Has Landed,” also introduces young readers to aspects of London’s history, food and culture. Saura hopes its humor and focus on kindness and friendship will appeal to children as well as the adults reading with them.

The book is available for preorder through major online retailers.
