A CVS Pharmacy that has anchored Vienna’s Cedar Park Shopping Center for more than three decades will permanently close April 1.

Signs announcing the closure have been posted at the store at 264 Cedar Lane SE. Customers’ prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS at 337 Maple Avenue East in downtown Vienna.

Employees will have the option to move into comparable positions elsewhere within the company.

The Vienna closure is among approximately 270 CVS locations expected to shut down this year. The company announced in 2021 that it planned to reduce its footprint by about 300 stores annually from 2022 through 2025.

CVS considers population changes, shopping habits, the concentration of stores and pharmacies, access to pharmacy care, and community health needs when deciding which locations to close.

More than 40 CVS pharmacies will remain in Fairfax County, and the company has no other closures planned in the county at this time. Other recent departures in the region have included locations in Seven Corners and Fairfax City.

The Cedar Park CVS survived the shopping center’s 2020 renovation alongside Dollar Tree, McDonald’s and Hunan Delight. Since then, the property has experienced substantial tenant turnover.

McDonald’s, Mediterranean restaurant Lezzet and Charles’ Barber Shop have left the center. Hunan Delight closed in September after operating there since at least 2008.

Newer arrivals include Sushi Koji, Toby’s Homemade Ice Cream and halal hot chicken chain The Red Bird, which took over the former McDonald’s space.

A property site plan shows that the suites previously occupied by Lezzet, Charles’ Barber Shop and Hunan Delight remain available. The 10,650-square-foot CVS space is marked as leased, though its next tenant likely will not be announced until after the pharmacy closes.

Cedar Park is also preparing to host a temporary library at 262C Cedar Lane SE while the Patrick Henry Library undergoes renovation. Expected to open in the spring or summer, the temporary location will provide browsing materials, pickup and return service, public Wi-Fi and some programs.

Fairfax County recently began seeking construction bids for the library project, which could start this summer. The expanded facility and a new parking garage are scheduled to open at 101 Maple Avenue East in summer 2027 under a new name, the Vienna-Carter Library.
