Vienna will welcome May with native plants, fresh produce and a live community program during three events at the Vienna Community Center on Saturday, May 2.
The town’s Spring Native Plant Sale will run from 8 a.m. to noon beside the community center parking lot near Waters Field. Sponsored by Vienna’s Conservation and Sustainability Commission, the sale will offer regional plants raised by Hill House Garden Nursery, including flowering perennials, native shrubs and small trees.
Visitors can get gardening advice and drop off used quart- and gallon-size plastic nursery pots for reuse. A free drawing will offer a rain barrel and backyard composter as prizes.
The Vienna Farmers Market will also open for the season that morning, featuring regionally sourced produce, honey, homemade goods and live music. The market will operate from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday from May through October. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9.
At 10 a.m. on May 2, Town Manager Mercury Payton will host a live taping of “On Deck with Mercury.” Payton and his guests will discuss Vienna’s plans to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary and preview some of the town’s seasonal traditions. Community members may watch the program and ask Payton questions afterward.
