Vienna residents can climb aboard some of the town’s largest trucks and explore the machinery that keeps local services running during Public Works Day on Thursday, May 21.

The free annual open house will run from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Northside Property Yard, 600 Mill St. NE. Visitors of all ages can get a close look at vehicles and heavy equipment used for jobs ranging from trash collection and snow removal to public safety.

The event will also feature public safety displays, children’s activities, a kids’ drawing, giveaways, snacks and tours offering a behind-the-scenes look at town operations.

Mayor Linda Colbert will host a “Meet the Mayor” booth from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Visitors can speak with her about Vienna and meet Public Works employees, who will explain their daily responsibilities, including street, sidewalk, water and sewer repairs.

The event is being held in conjunction with National Public Works Week. More information is available by calling 703-255-6380.
