Vienna residents will have to wait longer than some expected for Shipley Do-Nuts to open its new Maple Avenue shop.
Construction is underway beside Smoothie King, but the chain does not anticipate opening as soon as next month. A spokesperson said the launch is tentatively planned for late in the second quarter or early in the third quarter, placing it sometime in June, July or August 2026.
Shipley announced plans for the Vienna store six months ago. The shop at 256 Maple Avenue East will occupy a space previously used by T-Mobile. Duck Donuts once leased the location but never opened there.
The Vienna restaurant will be Shipley’s second location in Virginia, following one in Lynchburg. It will also be the chain’s second in the Washington area after a Clinton, Maryland, store opened in November 2024.
Founded in the early 20th century, Shipley now has more than 300 locations nationwide, with most concentrated in the southern United States. Its menu includes more than 40 varieties of doughnuts, along with bear claws, apple fritters and cinnamon rolls.
The chain is also known for kolaches, dough pockets commonly filled with savory combinations such as bacon, eggs, cheese or sausage.
Competition will be waiting when Shipley opens. Texas Donuts launched a shop directly across the street last year.
