Vienna’s historic Windover Heights neighborhood will welcome spring with more than 40 picturesque properties, landscaped gardens and colorful lawns during the 55th annual Walk on the Hill.

The free event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 26. Visitors can explore the neighborhood at their own pace while enjoying performances by the Vienna Community Band and Hickory Grove Band.

The Ayr Hill Garden Club will present an exhibit at Salsbury Spring Park, and light refreshments will be available.

This year’s walk will also recognize the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States. Open-garden signs will feature patriotic decorations, while children can participate in colonial-themed activities. The Vienna250 committee will host a selfie station.

District III of the National Capital Area Garden Clubs will stage a 250th anniversary-themed flower show in the Green Hedges School parking lot. Event parking will also be available at the school, located at 415 Windover Ave.

Founded in 1971 by the Ayr Hill Garden Club and Vienna residents, Walk on the Hill draws attention to the importance of preserving the historic Windover Heights neighborhood. More than five decades later, the event continues to bring residents and visitors together outdoors.

The walk takes place along Windover Avenue between Lewis Street and Lawyers Road. It is presented by the Town of Vienna in partnership with Historic Vienna, Inc., and the Windover Heights Historic District.
