Vienna’s Walk on the Hill Returns With 40-Plus Gardens

Vienna’s historic Windover Heights neighborhood will welcome visitors for the 55th annual Walk on the Hill on Sunday, April 26, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Vienna’s historic Windover Heights neighborhood will welcome visitors for the 55th annual Walk on the Hill on Sunday, April 26, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The free, self-paced event will feature more than 40 historic properties, colorful lawns and landscaped gardens. Live music will be provided by the Vienna Community Band and Hickory Grove Band, while the Ayr Hill Garden Club will present an exhibit at Salsbury Spring Park. Light refreshments will also be available.

This year’s walk will include patriotic touches ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Open-garden signs will carry special decorations, and visitors can take part in colonial-themed children’s activities and stop at a Vienna250 selfie station hosted by the Vienna250 committee.

District III of the National Capital Area Garden Clubs will stage a 250th anniversary-themed flower show in the parking lot at Green Hedges School, 415 Windover Ave. Event parking will be available there.

The Ayr Hill Garden Club and Vienna residents launched Walk on the Hill in 1971 to highlight the importance of preserving the Windover Heights neighborhood. More than five decades later, the spring tradition continues to bring neighbors and visitors together.

The walk takes place along Windover Avenue between Lewis Street and Lawyers Road. The Town of Vienna presents the event in partnership with Historic Vienna, Inc., and the Windover Heights Historic District.
