Vienna’s new Town Council term officially began Jan. 2, 2026, when Mayor Linda Colbert and all six councilmembers took the oath of office together—only the second such ceremony in the town’s history.
Judge Steve Shannon administered the oath during the council’s first meeting of the term, held at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall chambers.
Returning councilmembers Chuck Anderson, Roy Baldwin, Jessica Ramakis and Howard Springsteen were sworn in alongside new councilmembers Doug Francis and Dann Nash. Afterward, the council adjourned the meeting and celebrated with family members and community attendees.
The town’s first simultaneous swearing-in of the full council occurred in January 2024. The shift followed a change in Virginia election law that moved municipal contests from May to the November general election ballot.
Vienna previously elected councilmembers to staggered two-year terms. Since 2023, however, every Town Council seat has appeared on the same ballot.
The newly seated council will serve until January 2028. All seven seats, including the mayor’s, will be on the ballot in November 2027.
