Virginia lawmakers approved a two-year spending plan Monday, ending months of negotiations as a deadline to prevent a partial government shutdown approached. The Senate passed the budget 23-16, followed by a 71-22 vote in the House of Delegates. The plan now goes to Gov. Abigail Spanberger.
A Falls Church-area family and a large group of friends are mourning Sean King, who was struck while walking home from work. A car jumped the curb along a Leesburg Pike service road and hit King on the sidewalk. He died shortly afterward at a hospital.

Metro awarded Indra Group a $38.9 million base contract Monday to design, produce, install and maintain 450 new customer terminal machines. The equipment will be deployed across 98 stations and at WMATA testing and training facilities. The machines will have touch screens and accept mobile wallets, credit cards and debit cards.
Northern Virginia’s supply of top-tier office space is shrinking while new construction remains limited. Real estate experts say a sufficiently large or lucrative tenant would be needed to spur another project. Comstock Chief Marketing Officer Timothy Steffan estimated that annual rents of $85 per square foot would be necessary to cover skilled labor, materials and other construction costs for a new trophy office building.
Reston residents can attend a town hall Thursday about a proposed Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan amendment involving the Crescent Apartments property near Lake Anne. The amendment could make room for a larger Reston Community Center presence in the property’s future redevelopment.
