A proposal to tighten Virginia’s speed camera rules has stalled after lawmakers uncovered millions of dollars in revenue generated by the devices. The General Assembly is considering whether a narrower version can advance without expanding automated enforcement.
In Fairfax County’s Lincolnia area, two civilians were hospitalized after a house fire Tuesday evening. Firefighters responded to the 5100 block of Clinton Road at 7:12 p.m. and found smoke coming from a single-family home. No firefighters were injured, and investigators are working to determine the cause.
Drivers near Tysons face nightly disruptions through March 1. Ramps connecting the eastbound Dulles Toll Road and Dulles Airport Access Highway with northbound Interstate 495 will close overnight, with traffic directed to detours.

Efforts to regulate Virginia’s rapidly growing data center industry have also lost momentum. Lawmakers introduced several dozen bills, including bipartisan proposals in both legislative chambers, but only a few remain active, and critics say those measures have been weakened. One delegate said a state report arrived too close to the legislative session for lawmakers to fully consider major changes.
Metro expects to introduce contactless credit- and debit-card payments in late May or early June, General Manager Randy Clarke said. Riders will be able to tap a bank card to pay fares, while SmarTrip cards will remain available. The planned launch follows the restoration of automated train operations across the entire Red Line.

Maj. Matthew Luik will retire from the Fairfax County Police Department on Feb. 21 after serving as commander of the Mount Vernon District Police Station since last summer. Assistant commander Capt. Jeff Mauro will lead the station until a permanent replacement is selected.
