Local women educators will share personal experiences and lessons from their careers during a free panel discussion at Fairfax City Hall on Sunday, March 23, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Councilmember Stacey Hardy-Chandler will moderate the event, themed “Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations.” The discussion will explore how women educators shape communities, foster mentorship and lead with purpose.
The program will be held in the City Hall council chambers at 10455 Armstrong St.
Ceremony Will Honor Vietnam Veterans
A community ceremony marking Vietnam Veterans Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Amphitheater outside Fairfax City Hall, 10455 Armstrong St.
The program will honor Vietnam veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and recognize their families. Organizers will also read the names of Fairfax County residents who died in Vietnam.
The free public event is being hosted by the Fairfax Resolves Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Fairfax County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, VFW Post 8469 and American Legion Post 177.
Home for Life Expo Returns April 4
Senior citizens from Fairfax City and Fairfax County can receive information about aging at home during the third annual Home for Life 2025 Expo.
The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, at the Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Blenheim Blvd. in Fairfax.
The expo will feature 36 exhibitors and presentations about decluttering, technology support, estate planning and dementia care. Its Welcome Café will provide refreshments and space for attendees to visit with friends and neighbors.
The City of Fairfax Fire Department will also bring a fire-simulator trailer to the parking lot.
The Lamb Center Seeks Urgent Donations
The Lamb Center, a nonprofit daytime drop-in center serving people experiencing homelessness, urgently needs men’s clothing, food and other supplies.
Requested food items include 12-ounce disposable coffee cups, sturdy nine-inch paper plates, sturdy disposable 16-ounce bowls, large canisters of lemonade and iced-tea mixes, family-size cereal boxes, Pop-Tarts, 10-pound bags of granulated sugar and large containers of coffee creamer. Donors should not bring Styrofoam cups, plates or bowls.
Clothing needs include new men’s boxer briefs in sizes small through XXXL, women’s underwear in small sizes, unisex hoodies and new men’s white undershirts in all sizes. Paper towels and liquid bleach are also needed.
Donations may be delivered to 3160 Campbell Drive in Fairfax City from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday or from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Fairfax County Seeks Input on 911 Services
Fairfax County’s Department of Public Safety Communications is working with George Mason University to hold focus groups about improving emergency services.
Community members and first responders will discuss challenges in emergency response, community needs, potential service improvements and ways artificial intelligence tools could support emergency operations. Organizers say the sessions will help emergency teams better understand residents’ needs during crises and improve public preparedness.
Three sessions are scheduled:
- Culmore Library, Meeting Room 2, 6101 Knollwood Drive in Falls Church, from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
- Centreville Regional Library, Meeting Room 1, 14200 St. Germain Drive in Centreville, from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 4.
- Richard Byrd Library, Meeting Room 2, 7250 Commerce St. in Springfield, from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5.
Each session will last approximately two to three hours, and food and refreshments will be provided. Interested participants may register online.
