Homebuyer activity picked up across the Mid-Atlantic during the first full week of spring, with Washington-area markets helping drive an increase in purchase contracts.

There were 76,365 home showings across the regional listing service area during the week ending March 29, 2026. That was 4.8% more than during the comparable week in 2025, indicating that prospective buyers remained active despite economic uncertainty and ongoing conflict.

The Mid-Atlantic recorded 5,730 new purchase contracts, a 2.3% year-over-year increase. The Washington metropolitan area, Northern Virginia and Central Pennsylvania were the main contributors to that growth, while contract activity varied elsewhere in the region.

Homes took a median of 22 days to go under contract. That was three days longer than during the same week a year earlier and one day longer than in the previous week.

Higher inventory compared with 2025 has given buyers more time to consider their options before signing a purchase contract.
