Pura Vida Miami has opened its first Northern Virginia cafe in Merrifield’s Mosaic District, bringing a health-focused menu of all-day breakfast, acai bowls, salads and smoothies to 8296 Glass Alley.

The fast-casual restaurant occupies the space next to the Archer Hotel where Parc de Ville previously operated. It is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The menu emphasizes fruits, vegetables and proteins. Options include a vegetable-packed omelette and an avocado salmon bowl made with arugula, roasted corn, pickled red onion, radish, cilantro and spiced pumpkin seeds.

Chris Tambaschi, Pura Vida’s director of operations in the D.C. area, said the company wants to serve food customers can feel good about eating. He said the brand takes pride in sourcing high-quality ingredients, even when they carry a premium price.

The cafe also offers espresso drinks, matcha and eight fruit smoothies. One featured drink is the Cymbiotika creatine smoothie, which blends mango, strawberry, coconut water, dragon fruit, passionfruit and coconut yogurt.

More dishes are expected to arrive in the coming weeks, including an Australian steak described by the company as grass-fed and grass-finished.

Omer and Jen Horev founded Pura Vida Miami in Miami Beach in 2012. The company has since expanded into New York, New Jersey and California. Mosaic is its second location in the D.C. region after Potomac, Maryland.

Tambaschi called the Mosaic District a natural fit and said the community has been welcoming. The company is considering additional expansion in the region, with another cafe planned for D.C.’s Logan Circle neighborhood.

Other changes are underway at Mosaic. Rug company Ernesta and lymphatic body-sculpting spa The Tox are expected to open, while signage for Hawkers Asian Street Food was removed earlier this spring from the former Four Sisters storefront.
