Discarded crankshafts, crushed cans, plastic scraps and rusty metal will take on new forms in Doug Fuller’s latest exhibition at Reston Art Gallery and Studios.
“A Really Trashy Art Show / Found Object Sculptures by RustDoug” will run April 1-29, 2026, at the gallery in Lake Anne Plaza. Visitors can meet Fuller, a longtime Reston resident who works under the name RustDoug, during a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 12.
Fuller began collecting rusty objects more than 20 years ago after spotting a discarded crankshaft beside a dumpster. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s readymades, he started combining found pieces into sculptures that invite viewers to see familiar debris in new ways.
A friend’s challenge prompted Fuller to expand his materials over the past year. His recent work incorporates plastic remnants, flattened cans and other refuse alongside rusted metal.
Fuller initially studied architecture at Syracuse University before switching to graphic design. He has worked as a designer in Northern Virginia and exhibited throughout the D.C., Maryland and Virginia region. He is also an adjunct member of Reston Art Gallery and Studios.
The exhibition will be open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., and during special Tuesday and Thursday hours from noon to 5 p.m. Reston Art Gallery and Studios has operated at Lake Anne since 1987.
