Nine DMV-area artists will transform words, letters and even IKEA table legs into collaborative artwork during a June 6-28 exhibition at Reston Art Gallery and Studios on Lake Anne Plaza.

The CoLab Collage Artists include Parinaz Bahadori, Jennifer Duncan, Rosemarie Forsythe, Doug Fuller, Julia Malakoff, Molly McCracken, Marthe McGrath, Jennifer Penick and Doug Schulte. This marks the group’s third consecutive year exhibiting at the Reston gallery. The artists also showed work at the Fred Schnieder Gallery in Arlington in summer 2024.

The exhibition features more than 20 individual collages, several large collaborative works and 30 small collaged sculptures. Spanning two and three dimensions, the pieces incorporate paint, paper, fabric, found objects and handcrafted materials.

Text plays a central role throughout the show. Some pieces use words and phrases to communicate ideas directly, while others turn letters and fonts into shapes, patterns and textures intended to engage viewers both visually and intellectually.

The group’s newest project, “Text Blocks,” uses repurposed IKEA table legs as structures for layered collage. Artists will continue creating the pieces during live demonstrations at the gallery throughout the month.

Proceeds from sales of the “Text Blocks” and large collaborative works will benefit Cornerstones, a local nonprofit that helps people access housing, childcare, food and financial assistance.

The gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. An opening reception is scheduled for June 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. Visitors can make collaged postcards with the artists June 14 from 2 to 4 p.m., and a closing reception will take place June 28 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Reston Art Gallery and Studios is at 11400 Washington Plaza W., Suite B, on Lake Anne Plaza in Reston.
